John Glover has done a tremendous job of describing and illustrating techniques refined and perfected over a lifetime of unparalleled metal shaping successes in The Practical Sheet Metal Worker.
The book is divided into sections that include working the edges of metal parts, like beading, forming a wire edge and turning a flange. There is also a wealth of information on shrinking, tucking and heat shrinking. A section on making louvers is particularly helpful. The 'finishing touches' described in the book can enhance any metal shaping project, from basic to very advanced. Happily, John covers metal fabrication details and fine points in true English form - with excellent clarity and exquisite attention to detail.
Antique race cars, motorcycle gas tanks, aircraft parts and many other projects are all covered. Readers will enjoy John's perspective and personal touch along with intriguing information from days gone by. It’s full of valuable information about the hand forming of metal parts used in restoration, prototype, race and custom cars.

Beading machines are one of the most widely-used tools for both amateur and professional metalworkers. These machines can quickly and accurately make beads, steps, grooves, flanges, curls, and many other shapes in sheetmetal panels. As common as these machines are, many people don't know how to make the best use of them, and this program contains a wealth of knowledge about die selection, machine adjustment, and the proper techniques used to make crisp and accurate features in panels.
You'll see several different beading machines (bead rollers) in action, from bargain priced entry-level machines, through classic vintage machines, to the most versatile and robust motor-driven machines made today; giving you a good overview of the machines currently available, and showing which features are most important for specific types of work. Ron's easy-to-follow descriptions, coupled with the striking close-up photography will go a long way toward helping you master these versatile machines!

We offer Private Metal Shaping & Fabrication training by request. This is intended for those who may have a project, or part of a project that they would like to bring in to the shop for assistance. It is also ideal for those who want to further their skills in a very specific area, or who may just need some "refresher" shop time.
Private training is offered as schedule permits, and there is a three-hour minimum. Materials, as necessary, are charged in addition to the hourly rate. Tuition is $75 per hour for one student, $125 per hour for two students. No more than two students may attend at one session.
When you sign up / enroll, please submit 3 potential dates (with times, preferably) that will work for you. Please check these dates against our regular class schedules, because those are black out dates for private training. Many students, however, chose to enroll in a scheduled class and add a day, usually at the end of the class session for indivdual, private training.
If you have questions about private training, or want to check availability, please contact us here
