Metalshapers
know that wood slappers of various shapes, although a seemingly simple tool, quickly
become a valuable asset in any metal shop. Preferably made from top-quality hard
wood, our signature slappers are made to our specs from grade A hard maple for
strength and durability.
Why do I need a wood slapper when I have so many great hammers?
Unlike a hammer or a mallet, a wood slapper has the added benefit of a offering
a variety of curved surfaces for forming the desired curve in the metal being
worked. Wood slappers are particularly helpful for stretching large areas of metal
and for shaping gradual curves. And, almost without exception, wood slappers are
required for large metal shaping projects such as hoods, door skins, trunk lids
and the like. Which shape to
I need? Generally speaking, if you're setting up shop we
suggest selecting at least 3 shapes to provide the versatility you will undoubtedly
need. However, if your budget only allows for the purchase of one slapper choose
the flat. Available in 4 different shapes:
Flat, Gentle, Curved and Round.
Features Include: Rounded handle
and grip area are designed with comfort in mind to provide the hand and wrist
a relaxed working position combined with a sturdy grasp. A
long-term tool investment! Our wood slappers are custom designed for professional
results. Additionally, they are sealed with protective oil to resist stains and
guard against moisture.
Flat, Gentle and Curved slappers include a generous, 1/8"
thick, leather face cover to protect your work and eliminate marring
of the metal. Keep in mind, leather faces are a necessity when working
with aluminum. Steel can be worked (slapped) with bare wood without
fear of marking the metal.
